What are high index lenses?
High index lenses are thinner, lighter prescription lenses made from denser materials such as plastic/polycarbonate. They refract light more efficiently than standard lenses, thereby reducing lens thickness for a stronger prescription. Ideal for daily wear for people with high myopia (e.g. -6.00 and above).
What diopter requires high-index lenses?
If you are nearsighted at -6.00 diopters or higher, high-index lenses are recommended. If your distance vision is +6.00 diopters or higher, high-index lenses are recommended.
Do I need high-index lenses?
If you have a high degree of eye and want lighter glasses to reduce the pressure on the bridge of the nose and improve wearing comfort, you can choose to wear high-index lenses.
The general range of index lenses:
0-200, choose 1.50 index lenses; 0-400, 1.57 index lenses; 200-600, 1.61 index lenses; 400-800, 1.67 index lenses; 600 and above, 1.74 high-index lenses.
It should be noted that the recommended lens index is related to the degree and the amount of astigmatism. It is best to listen to the advice of the optometrist; the optometrist will also recommend the refractive index based on the profession (because a high index has dispersion (chromatic aberration)), so the professions of nail art, art, and vision will recommend a low index.
What are 1.74 high index lenses?
1.74 is the thinnest high index plastic lens available. Lens Thickness: 30-40% thinner than a standard 1.50 lens. Lens Weight: Up to 50% lighter. Best for: Extreme power prescriptions (e.g. -8.00 to -20.00). Disadvantages: Most expensive, requires premium coatings. Top Tip: Pair 1.74 lenses with small, rounded frames to minimize edge thickness!
